A Wispr Flow alternative for Windows

Wispr Flow is a voice dictation app that cleans up what you say with AI. VoiceKeyboard is a Windows-only voice keyboard with free and offline engines. They solve the same problem in different ways; this page sets out where each one fits, from the vendors' own pages.

Wispr Flow in brief

Wispr Flow is a dictation app for Mac, Windows, iPhone and Android. You speak and it types in any app. Its site describes the result as speech turned “into clear, polished writing”, and its examples show filler words and repeats removed; it also learns your names and jargon. It has a personal dictionary and snippets, more than 100 languages, and a separate Notetaker for meetings on Mac and Windows. Wispr's security overview says that it processes dictated audio in the cloud.

The free plan allows 2,000 words a week on desktop. Pro costs $15 a month, or $12 a month billed annually, and removes the limit. (Checked on wisprflow.ai and Wispr's help centre on 20 October 2026; prices and limits can change.)

What VoiceKeyboard does differently

  • The free limit is per day, not per week. VoiceKeyboard Free gives 2,000 words a day with any of its engines, and the count renews at midnight.
  • Offline engines on your PC. Whisper, Parakeet v3 and Vosk, plus GigaAM v3 and T-one for Russian, run on the computer after a one-time download. With them the audio does not leave the PC, and dictation works with the network off. They are part of the free plan.
  • You choose the engine. Google (free, through Google Chrome) or Soniox (Pro) when you are online, an offline model when you are not or prefer not to send audio anywhere. Soniox detects the language as you speak and can switch in the middle of a sentence.
  • It types what you said. VoiceKeyboard does not rewrite your text with AI. Punctuation comes from the engine, and on Pro voice commands add signs and line breaks where you say them.
  • Recordings and video links to text. The FILES screen turns audio, video and video links into a .txt file with Whisper on the computer: one file and one link a day on Free, without limits on Pro.
  • Windows only. There is no Mac, iPhone or Android version.

Privacy works both ways. VoiceKeyboard's offline models keep the audio on the computer, but its two online engines send the audio to Google or Soniox to be recognised, as any cloud engine does. Which engine is running is always on the green model screen. The online and local engines page has the details.

When Wispr Flow is the better choice

  • You want the app to tidy your speech into finished writing, not type it as spoken.
  • You work on a Mac or a phone as well as on Windows and want one tool everywhere.
  • You need team features, meeting notes from the same vendor, or HIPAA with a signed agreement, which its business plans offer.

If those matter most, Wispr Flow fits better, and its free plan is the way to find out.

When VoiceKeyboard fits

  • You use Windows and want to dictate every day without paying, or more than 2,000 words a week.
  • Your audio should stay on the computer: client calls, medical or legal notes, code under NDA.
  • You want the text exactly as you said it, with punctuation and line breaks by voice instead of an AI rewrite.
  • You speak Russian: GigaAM v3 and T-one are made for it and run offline.

Try it on your own text

Install VoiceKeyboard, put the cursor in any window and press Ctrl+1. Start with Google if you have Chrome, then download an offline model and compare. Prompts for AI tools have their own guide: voice prompts for Cursor, Claude Code and ChatGPT. If the hotkey clashes with another app, change it. If you dictate with Bluetooth headphones, read Bluetooth headphones and the microphone first.
