Honest comparison

A Superwhisper alternative for Windows

Superwhisper is best known as a Mac app, and it now has a Windows version as well. If you are choosing a dictation app for a Windows PC, here is how it compares with VoiceKeyboard, using each vendor's own pages.

Superwhisper on Windows today

Superwhisper is no longer a Mac-only app. Its site offers a Windows version for Windows 10 and 11, on both x64 and ARM64 PCs, next to the macOS, iOS and Android apps, with no beta label on the download page. It types in any app, has on-device models that work without internet, and covers more than 100 languages. Its AI modes, including Super Mode, read what is on screen and format the text for the app you are in: an email reads like an email, a chat stays casual.

The free plan does not expire and includes unlimited use of Whisper models. Pro is about $8.49 a month, with yearly and lifetime options; it adds cloud and local AI models, your own AI API keys, translation into English and transcription of audio and video files, and one Pro licence covers Windows, Mac, iOS and Android. (Checked on superwhisper.com on 20 October 2026; its Windows page lists Pro as $8 a month, its pricing block as $8.49.)

Where the two overlap

Both put text where your cursor is, in any Windows app. Both can recognise speech on the PC without internet, so the audio does not have to leave it, and both offer Whisper models on the free plan. If offline Whisper dictation is all you need, either will do it.

What VoiceKeyboard brings

  • Engines by name, offline and online. Besides Whisper there are Parakeet v3, Vosk, and GigaAM v3 and T-one for Russian, all offline, plus Google online for free and Soniox on Pro. Soniox detects the language as you speak and can switch in the middle of a sentence.
  • Text while you speak. Google, Soniox, Vosk and T-one type the words as you say them; Whisper, Parakeet and GigaAM type each phrase when you pause. Superwhisper’s pages do not say how its Windows version shows the text while you speak, so compare the two side by side.
  • No AI rewriting. VoiceKeyboard types what the engine heard. On Pro, voice commands add punctuation, line breaks and your own text snippets where you say them.
  • Files on the free plan. The FILES screen turns audio, video and video links into a .txt with Whisper on the computer: one file and one link a day on Free, no limit on Pro.
  • The free plan has a daily cap. 2,000 words a day with any engine, online or offline. Superwhisper's free Whisper use has no word cap, so for unlimited free offline dictation it is the more generous of the two.
  • Windows only, x64. VoiceKeyboard is built for 64-bit x64 Windows 10 and 11. There is no Mac or phone version, and no build for ARM64 PCs.

When Superwhisper is the better choice

  • You want AI to format or rewrite your speech for each app, or to translate it into English.
  • You also use a Mac, an iPhone or an Android phone and want one licence across them.
  • Your PC is an ARM64 laptop.
  • You dictate a lot offline with Whisper and do not want to pay at all.

When VoiceKeyboard fits

  • You want a free online engine (Google) next to the offline ones, or text that appears word by word offline with Vosk or T-one.
  • You dictate in Russian: GigaAM v3 and T-one are made for it.
  • You switch languages mid-sentence and want an engine that follows (Soniox, Pro).
  • You want the words exactly as spoken, with punctuation and line breaks by voice; see voice commands.
  • You need to turn a recording or a video link into text now and then without a subscription.

Try both on the same text

Both have a free plan, so the fair test is your own words. Install VoiceKeyboard, press Ctrl+1 (the hotkey can be changed) in any window and dictate a paragraph with Google, then download an offline model and dictate it again. If you dictate prompts for AI tools, read voice prompts for Cursor, Claude Code and ChatGPT; if you use Bluetooth headphones, read Bluetooth headphones and the microphone first.
